Coleman's
Pet Page
Coleman loves animals and he's always finding critters
that he wants to keep as pets.
Here are a few of the animals that we actually did
keep.
Here are the turtles.... the American Snapping Turtle
on the left and the Eastern Painted Turtle.
Coleman just calls thePainted turtle "Turtle".
We found her in the middle of the road when she was fairly young
and brought her home.
I estimate her to be about five years old.
Here's the snapper... she's about the same size as
the painted turtle now and she's only about a little over a year
old.
Coleman found her as a hatchling in a friend's backyard.
She is an excellent hunter and she's very well camoflaged.
Here's a photo of the two turtles from about a year
ago.
Here's Carl, our Northern Flying Squirrel
He just loves walnuts. Well, he'll run to grab pretty
much any nut you have from your fingers.
Isn't he cute. You'll never guess where we found him....
in our toilet! Yup, the poor little guy nearly downed and I almost
flushed him thinking he was someone's unfinished business, but
luckily he moved a little and I realized he was an animal, not
waste.
We'd heard him living in the ceiling and I even saw
him a few months beforehand, in the hall closet, trying to construct
a nest out of insulation, so we knew if we let him free he'd just
make his way back into our house. We figure, if he's gonna live
in our home with us and steal our food, we might as well be able
to enjy watching him.
So Brian built him a great cage around a living Ficus
tree, but as you may have noticed, Carl's chewing has pretty much
killed his tree.
